OUR HISTORY

Learning is natural

Little Turners Community Playgroup has a long history in Turners Cross. Established some 30 years ago, we moved from Curragh Road to 25 Capwell Road, Turners Cross In 2000. The preschool is run by a voluntary management committee and we pride ourselves on our homely atmosphere and qualified, experienced staff.

We have a child friendly outdoor play area, a sheltered sand play area and planting boxes for the children to enjoy. We are guided by the principles of Siolta – The National Quality Framework For Early Childhood Education, and Aistear – The National Curriculum Framework For Early Childhood Education.

Pre-School

Our aim is to provide a quality community pre-school service for children from 2 years 8 months to 5 years, and to encourage and promote children's social, emotional, language, cultural, physical, creative and cognitive development through the medium of play.  Play is nature's way of preparing the young for adult life. Safe, satisfying play builds the foundation for learning.

We acknowledge that parents/guardians are the primary educators of their children. Our aim is to work in partnership with you to further the development and early education of your child.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is child led, when a child expresses an interest in a particular area we provide the resources and expertise so that the child can get the best ;earning experience in Little Turners. the pre school has been serving the local children since 1987, therefore we have an abundance of resources in our pre school that are both fun and educational at the same time. The backdrop to our curriculum involves changing seasons, festivals , birthdays, different cultures and anything the children may be interested in. Each child is treated and respected as an individual and their choices and interests are paramount as to how the morning unfolds. Play is a child’s work and is central to their environment.

All learning is done through play in Little Turners.

Our Programme

Each day our children have a choice of indoor activities, such as construction play, jigsaws, art & crafts, pretend play, small world play and fine motor activities.

In our bright & colourful outdoor area we have a large sandpit, a large wooden playhouse, tricycle & bikes, footballs, a planting area and a large slide.

Outdoor play is an important part of every school day.

The children can enjoy the fun of music and dancing each day.

Outdoor Play

This is vital for the child's overall development and children in Little Turners Preschool are given the opportunity to be outside in our play area as often as possible.

In our outdoor area they find challenges and explore activities that they cannot do indoors. They enjoy digging, planting, watering the flowers and growing herbs & vegetables.

We provide a range of outdoor toys as well as a large sandpit. Weather permitting, the children eat together around the picnic table.
